A long, low inn on the Summerhythe wharf, named for the enormous copper kettle that hangs, polished and never used, over its door. It has a taproom, a brewhouse, a stable yard, and a long room upstairs where the Wardens of the Lease sleep, argue and keep their charts.
Points of interest
- The taproom. Low beams, a harp with two strings missing, and a settle by the fire that belongs to Odda Quarrel on quiet nights.
- The long room. Over the brewhouse, warm from the mash tuns below, with four beds (two of them slept in), one table and a wall that is slowly filling up with pinned notes about the lease.
- The attic. Iveth Ammerly’s room, where the counterpart lies on a worktable under a warming lamp, its seal softening.
- The stable loft. Where Kit Farrow has slept since he was six, by choice.
Notable people
Mags Threlkeld owns and runs it. Her cook, two pot-boys and three cats complete the household.
