What the Wardens Know
Jory is nineteen, a third-year apprentice Sealwright with a good hand and a habit of whistling in the vaults, which is forbidden. He held keys to the lower Wax Vaults. Ten days before the Midsummer Fair he did not come to morning roll, and nobody at Sealwright Hall has seen him since.
His peg in the apprentices’ hall still has his name on it and nothing hanging from it. Kit Farrow knew him slightly, from two evenings at the Glad Kettle, and liked him. In the vault behind the lease-case the Wardens found a razor wrapped in a twist of gold embroidery thread. Nobody has yet said out loud that the two things are connected.
